The Art of the Potato — Soulman’s Does Potatoes Five Ways

More Than Just a Sidekick.

When you walk into Soulman’s Bar-B-Que, your eyes usually go straight to the cutting block. While our smoked meats are the stars of the show, we believe every Texas plate needs a strong supporting cast. This month, we are celebrating the unsung hero that brings it all together: The Potato.

At Soulman’s, shortcuts have never been part of the recipe.. That means we still do things the way the moms did the day before we first opened our doors in 1974. From hand-peeling to hand-cutting, we treat our spuds with the same pride and pursuit of perfection we give our brisket.

The Soulman’s Potato Five-Way

What makes a Texas original different is a hands-on commitment to quality you cannot get from a factory line. Here is how we honor the potato every single day:

  • The Massive Idaho Baker: We do not settle for average. We source the largest premium Idaho potatoes available—massive spuds that can stand up to a mountain of meat. Smoked, hot, and loaded, these are the canvas for our famous Double Barrel.
  • Memer’s Famous Potato Salad: This is the heart of our family legacy. We still peel and cut the potatoes in-store every morning, boil them to perfection, then mix them with ingredients that define southern comfort. It’s made-from-scratch quality–the classic side done exactly right, just as it’s been for generations.
  • Hand-Cut Fries: No frozen bags here. Our fries are hand cut and fried to a golden crunch. They are the foundation of our Frontier Fries, loaded with pulled pork, cheese, and bar-b-que ranch. Check out The Tyler if you want to get even more creative with your fries!
  • Spicy Potatoes: For those in search of a little more heat, our spicy potatoes bring a signature Texas kick. Whole smoked potatoes are diced and then tossed on the griddle with onion, tomato, cilantro, jalapeno, and a blend of seasonings as unique as the Lone Star State. You will find these powering The Rambler, layered with spicy cream corn and hot links.
  • Mashed Potatoes & Gravy: Creamy, rich, and comforting. Soulman’s mashed potatoes are made in-house daily with a combination of simple ingredients that make it a true classic for any meal and a must-have during the holidays.

A Legacy in Every Bite

For over 50 years, Soulman’s has been more than a restaurant; it has been a gathering place for our North and East Texas communities. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch through the Soulman’s App or booking Catering for a graduation, you are becoming part of our story. Stop by your local Soulman’s this March and let us treat you like family while you experience the art of the potato, done the Texas way.
